Comber Chamber of Commerce raised £204 for Gloveworx, a local boxing club in Comber, by organising a ballot at a recent networking event.
Alderman Deborah Girvan, chairperson of Comber Chamber of Commerce said, “At a networking BBQ held at No 14 Georgian House, we decided to run a ballot to raise funds for Gloveworx. We chose Gloveworx as we are very impressed with the good work that they do around the town. Not only do they provide an inclusive, community-based, amateur boxing club but they also volunteer at Comber Farmers’ Market and events that are held in the town. I would like to thank the members of Comber Chamber for providing the ballot prizes and for their generosity in raising much needed funds for the boxing club.”
Scott Bryan, chairperson of Gloveworx said, “We started the club a couple of years ago. Although boxing is the focus of our activities, we also aim to tackle anti-social behaviour and improve mental health in a fun and safe environment. We have provided all the equipment ourselves and the money will enable us to purchase some much needed safety and training equipment. On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Comber Chamber of Commerce for their kind consideration and generous donation.”
Training takes place in the Community Centre, Park Way, Comber on Tuesday and Friday evenings. Children attend from 6.30pm -7.20pm and adults from 7.40pm – 8.30 pm. For registration and booking visit www.gloveworxboxing.com or call Scott Bryan on 07392 951 434
