To celebrate the opening of non-essential shops, a special shopping day will take place on Saturday 1 May when all the retail shops will open their doors to invite shoppers to step inside.
Alderman Deborah Girvan, Chairperson of Comber Chamber of Commerce, said, “The Covid-19 pandemic has created a tough time for businesses and the public over the past year. Although some essential shops have been open throughout the lockdown period and a few shops have recently been allowed to offer click and collect, all the other independent shops around Comber have been closed since Christmas Eve. I would encourage Comber folk and visitors to visit our lovely town – not just on Saturday 1 May – but in the weeks ahead to shop local and support our local businesses.
Comber has a wide range of quirky, independent shops and businesses from vintage crafts to designer raincoats to wonderful local fresh food to private tuition for school children. Only the retail shops will allow customers to enter their premises at the moment as cafes and restaurants are still only able to offer take-away drinks and food. Shoppers should respect Covid restrictions and wear masks, keep a 2-metre distance and be patient if they have to queue to get into a shop.”
While stocks last, members of Comber Chamber of Commerce will be in the Square between 11.00am and 2.00pm to hand out free balloons for children, free Comber shopping bags, and free facemasks.
